'I Believe' foster children supporting one another
'I Believe' is a group that began two years ago for the birth children in foster families. It started when Denise, Jean, Sarah and Sean (Fostering Social Workers from Kildare West Wicklow) organised for a group of us to go bowling and we were told about the group. It was set up for children who took foster children into their homes so that we can come together and have fun and discuss our life with other kids with foster families. We all agreed to name our group ‘I Believe’.
When the group started we were nervous about going as we didn’t know what to expect but we’re so glad we did join... everyone was very welcoming and nice and easy to talk to... We think it’s a very special group. We are proud to be part of it. We meet up every month to do activities and discuss future plans.
We’ve gone on many trips with each other like Zip It, where we went zip-lining and had a barbecue. We also went into Dublin and had dinner and went on the Viking Splash – it was so much fun. Our favourite trip was going to the Escape Rooms... We also go on important trips for our group like conferences and exhibitions.
The group is great because it allows us the opportunity to be with people who understand what it’s like to have foster siblings. The best thing about it is the friendships we’ve made with everyone. We always have a laugh together and have amazing memories with each other and hopefully more to come.
