Social Worker
A Social Worker is someone who will listen to you. Their job is to make sure you are safe and help you and your family if you need it. And they’ll keep helping you and your family until things at home change for the better and stay better.
There are many different types of social workers -
When a young person or someone else calls Tusla to say they’re worried about the safety of a child or young person, the first person they talk to is the Duty Social Worker. The Duty Social Worker needs to quickly check if the young person is safe and if their family needs support.
The Child Welfare/Protection Social Worker helps young people and their families so that they can live safely together at home. They make a plan with you, your family or other important people in your life and get a team of people to help in lots of different ways.
The Child in Care Social Worker supports young people who are cared for away from their family.
If you need to live away from your family, your Social Worker will make a Care Plan and talk to you about all the important decisions like where you will live, go to school and when you will see your family. They’ll help you settle in and check in with you to see how it’s going – and you can call them if you need to talk.
