Family Welfare Conference
A Family Welfare Conference is a family meeting about you. At this meeting your parents, your family and other people who care for you get together to talk about how they can help you. Other important people who work with your family might be there too. Your family will make a plan for you.
This meeting is about deciding how best to care for you. It is very important that you have your say. There are different ways you can take part, like writing down your views or having a support person to help you or you can attend the meeting yourself.
The co-ordinator will welcome everyone. There your social worker and other services will explain the difficulties you or your family are having. They will also explain how they can help. Then your family will have some time on their own to talk about things to come up with a plan for your future. At the end the plan is written down and agreed by everyone so that everyone knows what will happen next. It will be agreed who will explain the plan to you. The plan is reviewed a few months later to make sure it’s working ok.
